About Copic
Why are Copic markers so special?
The formulation of the colors has remained the same since its inception, and the colors are vibrant and consistent. They are easily blendable, even years after completing the artwork. Once purchased, you never have to throw them away—just replace the nib and refill them. Each Copic marker is tested three times, with the final check being done by hand. There are 358 colors available. And if you can't find the right color, you can create it yourself using Copic ink refills and empty Copic markers.
What is the difference between the different types of Copic markers?
There are three types of Copic markers: Copic Sketch, Copic Ciao, and Copic Classic. (* Copic Wide is available only as an empty marker). All inks used are of the same quality, and all markers can be refilled with Copic Ink multiple times. The type of nib (the marker tip) and the ink amount vary depending on the model, so choose the one that best suits your purpose and preference.
Copic Sketch: 358 colors. The standard Copic model used by many professionals across various fields like illustration, manga, and design. It can also be used with the Copic airbrush system.
Copic Ciao: 180 colors. It has the same nibs and quality as the Copic Sketch but contains less ink. Suitable for all types of drawing, perfect for beginners.
Copic Classic: 214 colors. This long-standing model was released in 1987 and is mainly used for creating graphic designs and illustrations. It has two types of nibs, broad and fine, which differ from those of the Copic Sketch and Copic Ciao.
What is the difference between 100 (Black) and 110 (Special Black)?
100 (Black) is a dark, slightly bluish black that pairs well with cool grays. 110 (Special Black) is a clean black that pairs well with neutrals. Since this difference is subtle, use it according to your preference. In terms of ink density, 100 contains more dye.
What do the letters and numbers on Copic markers mean?
Copic assigns each color a "color number" made up of letters and numbers based on their color system. The letter corresponds to the first letter of the English name of the color for each hue, such as "R" for red, "B" for blue, and "E" for earth tones. The number in the middle groups colors with similar tones within the same hue. The closer the number is to 0, the more transparent the color is; the closer it is to 9, the more the color tends to be muddy and complex. The other numbers represent the levels of brightness, with "000" being the brightest and "9" becoming darker.
Can I bring my Copics on a plane?
Copic markers can be carried on a plane, even in carry-on luggage, but Copic Ink may be prohibited. It's always best to check with the airline for clarification.
The Copic Air Brushing System (ABS) air cans cannot be carried on board.
There are so many colors, and I don't know what to buy. Which one should I choose?
Copic ink can be layered multiple times to darken the same color, so we recommend starting with lighter colors. Initially, choose about 10 colors that you can use for what you want to draw or based on your favorite colors. If it's hard to pick a single color, you can always start with a set.
How should I store my Copic markers?
We recommend storing Copic markers and inks in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. If the marker is exposed to direct sunlight or strong ultraviolet rays, the casing may deteriorate, crack, or fade. After using Copic markers and Multiliners, it is recommended to store them horizontally to prevent uneven ink distribution (although even if the ink isn't evenly distributed, it will flow without issues if you wait for a while). Copic ink is flammable, so make sure to store Copic Ink in a place away from fire.
How long does a Copic last?
Actually, Copics can last a long time if you take care of where you store them and refill the marker properly using Copic Ink. The tips can be replaced. Since the marker's casing is made of plastic, it will deteriorate over time, so avoid leaving your marker in high temperatures or humidity, and store it in a place not exposed to direct sunlight.
What is the 0 marker?
Among all 358 colors, the only ink with no color is the "0 (Colorless Blender)." The Blender is used for many things: it allows you to correct mistakes and create effects.
Is it possible to use Copic markers to color metal, glass, etc.?
Copic ink is a dye-based ink, so it creates color when absorbed by the fibers of paper or fabric. Metal and glass are not suitable because the ink does not penetrate, and the dye remains on the surface.
How do you refill a Copic marker?
Prepare the Copic Ink in the same color as the Copic marker you want to refill. Use tweezers to remove the broad tip (chisel tip) of the Copic marker and insert the ink bottle nozzle directly into it to refill.
