What is the Copic Award?

International Copic Award Competition 2024

COPIC AWARD is an international art competition based on the idea of connecting Copic artists from around the world.

All works will be displayed in an online gallery, allowing participants to share their work with a wide audience and view the work of other participants from different parts of the world.

All Copic artists are welcome, regardless of age, nationality, or artistic style.

This year we have reached the 7thCopic Award.

Important dates of the Copic Award 2024

The period in which you can participate by entering your drawing is from May 10 to June 30, 2024.

Below are some important dates:

  • April 1, 2024: By going to www.copicaward.com you can register
  • May 10 - June 30, 2024: Period in which you can enter your design
  • July 2024: First round of selection
  • Mid-August 2024: Announcement of the results of the first round of selection 
  • September 2024: Final Selection
  • November 2024: Announcement of the winners

Below are some rules:

  • There are no restrictions on nationality, age, experience, area of residence, etc.
  • Applicants must be individual artists, not groups.
  • Entry is limited to works not already made public through other competitions, exhibitions and past COPIC AWARDs 
  • The artwork must have been created using Copic products.
  • The work should be no larger than 420 mm x 297 mm x 300 mm and weigh no more than 5 kg.
  • The base material need not be paper, but the use of fragile materials such as ceramics or glass is prohibited.
  • No category, no specific theme. Let your imagination run wild!
  • Only one artwork can be submitted per person.

Prizes

First Copic Award

Grand Copic Award:

  • Dollar prize of $3,000
  • A complete set of 358 Copic Sketches
  • A Copic Award trophy

There are many other prizes and they can all be seen at www.copicaward.com. 

One award we really like is the Future Generation Award. The works of 100 young people who are 18 years of age or younger at the time of selection will be selected, and the award is a Special Copic Set Award 2024. 

Judges

Paru Itagaki

Manga artist

In 2016, Itagaki made his debut as a manga artist with the one-shot series "BEAST COMPLEX" in "Weekly Shonen Champion" (Akita Shoten). Subsequently, her first series "BEASTARS" became a hot topic and won numerous awards, including the Newcomer Award in the Manga Division at the Japan Media Arts Festival, the 11th Manga Award Grand Prize, and theTezuka Osamu Cultural Award New Life. It has also been made into an anime. She is currently working on the series "SANDA" in "Weekly Shonen Champion."

Shohei Ochiai

Artist

After graduating in product from Tama Art University, Department of Production Design, he began working as an artist in 2018.His work is characterized by dynamic and unpredictable shapes, three-dimensionality and line drawings drawn with powerful pen pressure. He is expanding his activities nationally and internationally, including providing works to the digital auction house "JOOPITER" hosted by Pharrell Williams.

Yusuke Nakamura

Illustrator

Graduated from Osaka University of the Arts, Department of Design. He has made CD covers for artists such as ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION and Masashi Sada, covers for music textbooks such as "The Night Is Short, Walk, Otome" and "Solve Mysteries After Dinner," packages for Asada candy and Lotte's chocolate cake, etc. In addition, his art is expressed in various areas, including character design for anime, radio production, and essay writing.

Kota Nezu

Designer

After working for Toyota Motor Corporation, he founded Znug Design in 2005. He is involved in the development of the zecOO electric motorcycle, the LOVOT family robot, the Toyota concept car, and the Thermos portable cup. He has received the Good Design Gold Award and many others. Member of the Good Design Award jury 2014-2024. Author of the books "Ideas are in the Enemy" and "Car Design Describes the Future."

Michihiko Yanai

Creative Director/Professor, Tokyo University of the Arts

After graduating from the Department of Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, he worked at Hakuhodo before founding Kaze to Rock. He has worked on numerous popular advertising campaigns, including Tower Records' "NO MUSIC, NO LIFE." He is also the creative director of Fukushima Prefecture, professor of design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, and guitarist for the rock band Inawashiro Lakes, which participated in the 2011 NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.
